Brighton Explorers Club
The Brighton Explorers Club (BEC) is a multi-activity club and charity for over-18s. The club aims to get people active in the great outdoors. While our charitable focus is on young adults, we have (and encourage) active members of all ages. We do a wide variety of activities including rock climbing, road cycling, mountain biking, walking, caving, kayaking, SUP, windsurfing, badminton, tennis, coasteering and surfing. Our charitable objectives are : 1. to facilitate the personal development and growth of young people by education and instruction through participation in a wide variety of activities with special reference to the outdoors and physical endeavour; and 2. the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for participation in sports such as cycling, paddlesport, walking, caving, climbing, coasteering, windsurfing and badminton, but without limitation.

📢 Earthwatch's Great UK WaterBlitz is back on this September!

âš  Our rivers and freshwater habitats are at crisis point and we need urgent action. We are invited to join the Great UK WaterBlitz this September!

💧🧪 Over the weekend of 19-22 September, Earthwatch is calling on you to go out and measure the water quality of our local river, lake, pond or stream. The data you collect will help build a picture of freshwater health across the UK, and can be used to fight for real change.

For this adventurous GoodGym community mission, we are joining forces with Brighton Explorers Club (BEC) and other local paddlesports, including Martlets Kayak club, and Adur Canoe Club in their Paddle UK mission to Clear Access and Clear Waters, a PaddleUK campaign to preserve the quality of open green and blue environments.

âš  Do you have already your EarthWatch Water Bliz Kit?

If not, please register to the event and book your kit HERE. Without it, we cant collect any samples! However, don't worry, I got them for you too!

âš  Have you paddled before?

If not, just let me know ASAP. I am a Paddle UK paddlesport leader and I always welcome who want to be inducted to watersports to #GetOutThere to enjoy paddling outdoors. The weather forecast is reasonably kind, but wind will increase with the developing of the day without compromising our paddling. Be aware, thou!

The plan is to meet at the Brighton Sailing Club to collect equipment at 8:15am to leave no later than 8:30am. We will then travel and go paddling locally on the river Ouse (from Lewes to Hansley, or Southease to Lewes) with a return loop of 8 km max (or shorter). Details can be found HERE. Please also sign up on the BEC calendar event to secure borrowing of crafts.

To #paddlesafe on the water , please follow these five basic key messages:

#Always wear a buoyancy aid #Tell someone where you're going #Carry a mobile phone #Check the weather #Know your limits

An Introduction to Paddlesport eLearning on the British Canoeing Awarding Body website will also help.

Happy GoodGyming and paddleboarding with a bliz!
