Maytree Respite Centre
Our Vision To fill a gap in services for the acutely suicidal between emergency services and all non-residential help, offering brief-stay crisis support by engaging with non-medical compassionate befrienders. Our Mission At our sanctuary for those in suicidal crisis, we provide a unique, internationally respected, evidence-informed, non-medical psychosocial model. We offer a potentially transformative experience with a once-only 4-night stay at our family-style house. Through respite, time and space for reflection and compassionate and nurturing care, our befriending volunteers and professionals support an opportunity for the revival of hope and resilience. Our Values Trust, respect, openness, empathy, equity, non-judgement

The community gardening team at the Maytree Respite Centre would love some support in the residential garden

The volunteer crew are seeking additional assistance with:

  • Weeding
  • Planting
  • Digging
  • Tidying up the garden

We recognise the profound importance of a nurturing garden space for all beings. The impact of this work will extend far beyond the physical transformation of the garden itself, it will offer emotional and psychological support to those who need it most. For the guests who come to Maytree during times of deep distress and emotional turbulence, the garden can provide a moment of calm, a place to reflect, and a gentle connection to the healing power of nature. But the benefits don’t stop there. Our volunteers and staff, who give so much of themselves in supporting others, will also find a restorative refuge in this space. A tranquil garden offers an opportunity to pause, reset, and be held by the quiet strength of the natural world – nurturing not just the body, but the mind and soul as well. This shared space of beauty and stillness will ripple outwards, enriching the entire Maytree community.
