Sussex Blazing Saddles
Sussex Blazing Saddles is a heritage project, exploring the pioneering cycling women who transformed their clothing to be able to ride, changing society and driving the campaign for women's votes, in Newhaven, Worthing, Brighton & Hove, and Bexhill

Come & take part in a Sussex Blazing Saddles performance!

The show is based on the moment women in the 1890s transformed their clothing & society to be able to ride bicycles. In Brighton, nowadays, it is also a way to incentivise every women to have a go riding a bike, beginning with familiarising with getting up and down the saddle, moving around, on and off, uplifting the two wheels and by creating nice choreographies in an interactive performance open to the public!

This is a fun-packed interactive mission that I'd like to propose to other enthusiastic GoodGym-ers who like biking or just want to have a go on the two wheels. While having fun ourselves, we will help Blazing Saddle Sussex and Brighton Multiculture Bike Club to overcome the stereotype that cycling is not easy when you are used or like to dress a shirt. Let's encourage all women to cycle!

We will create the shows with local women and girls (you and your bike) over the weekend, starting with workshop/rehearsal in the morning, and a rehearsal in the performance site in the afternoon on the first day, Saturday 21st. On Sunday 22nd, we'll have the opportunity to rehearse again in the morning and perform the show at 2.30pm & 4.30pm in front of St Peter Church, in Brighton (if so you wish).

Best to register HERE, especially if you don't have or need to borrow a bike.

FAQs

Do you need a bike? Yes you will need a bike. Please bring it along if you have one. If not, it may be possible to borrow one by contacting info(at)sussexblazingsaddles.co.uk giving your age and height.

Is it for women and girls only? The aim is to shine a light on the historical impact of the advent of the bicycle on women, and to encourage more women to ride today (especially as women are much less likely to cycle than men). However, everyone is welcome to come along and get involved.

Workshop schedule, timing : >> Roughly, 9:45-10am: arrival @ Cartlon Hill Schoo; 10am-1pm workshop to learn core skills & basic choreographic moves (this is fun!); 1-2pm lunch break; 2-4pm rehearsal @ St Peter Church Square (this will be even more fun!). Did you enjoy it? Then, come back on Sunday 22nd for another rehearsal in the morning, if needed, and to perform what learned at 2:30pm and 4:30pm @ St Peter Church Square (if so you wish, of course)!

HERE's a video to get inspired!
