Help us launch GoodGym Southampton
Do Good, Get Fit and make an impact
March 30, 2023
With their expansion plan for 2023 underway, GoodGym have announced their next area; Southampton. They are now looking for volunteer Coordinators, TaskForce and GoodGymers to join them.
New to Southampton, the initiative has been co-driven by Energise Me, a Hampshire and Isle of Wight charity creating happier and healthier communities through physical activity and sport. Together, we hope to bring a new perspective to grassroots volunteering and aim to empower local people to make a difference to their own lives and those around them.
Set to be our first new area in over two years, GoodGym Southampton will be supported by local volunteer coordinators and a dedicated TaskForce, with the challenge of balancing local demand for volunteer support with enthusiastic GoodGymers ready to lend a hand or two.
Ahead of the launch, GoodGym are now seeking applications for the new area's volunteer Coordinators. Could this be you?
Linda, Head of Operations at GoodGym says,
“We’re simply delighted to be able to bring GoodGym to Southampton. Working with Energise Me, I feel confident that we have a new blueprint which can help to empower local people to benefit from the wonderful experiences that GoodGym brings; enjoying a new sense of purpose helping others, finding new motivation by revitalising old exercise routines (or an excuse to start a new one) and so often finding a home within the GoodGym community that you never knew you needed."
Sessions, known as community missions, include incredibly diverse tasks such as stocking up local foodbanks, planting trees, revitalising community centres and even helping crisis centres pack up care parcels. GoodGym is able to blend the need of active members of the community seeking new reasons to stay fit with organisations crying out for support and more capacity.
With many people having previously registered their interest in GoodGym finding a home in Southampton, Rhia was one of the first to share her joy. She said, “I was the second person to sign up as a founding member about seven years ago and wasn’t sure this day would come! I would love to join the Task Force.”
GoodGym is free to sign up and can work around busy schedules. All fitness levels are welcomed, with the option to walk, run or cycle to community missions and encourage people from every walk of life.
