It's National Gardening Week!
What better way to celebrate gardening than with GoodGym?
April 29, 2022
It will come as no surprise that GoodGym loves gardening; it combines getting outdoors, connecting with nature and getting fit... and we get to support others at the same time too.
It's with the arrival of National Gardening Week that we also see a surge in requests to help isolated, vulnerable and older people with their gardening. Whether it's an access issue, a one-off task or making a care home garden an enjoyable space to rest in, we know the difference green space can make to older people's wellbeing.
No way do we mow in May!
In May, not all gardening tasks are created equal, however, as GoodGymers resist the urge to mow lawns this month as part of #NoMowMay , an annual campaign created by Plantlife. The campaign aims to boost wild flower growth and bee population. A must-have initiative for all of us environmentalists out there.
You can check out more here on Plantlife's website. They had the following to say about #NoMowMay...
"Plantlife’s No Mow May campaign doesn’t ask you to do much. In fact, it asks you to not do anything at all… Just lock up your lawnmower on May 1st and let the wild flowers in your lawn bloom, providing a feast of nectar for our hungry pollinators."
A brilliant cause and such a simple way to make a positive impact on the environment. It's safe to say we will be giving up the mower this May.
No garden? No problem.
Have no garden but want to get stuck in? We have a solution for that. Many GoodGymers live in urban areas and don't have access to their own garden. GoodGym is able to help by linking gardening and outdoor tasks with members who are keen to give back in this way.
We carry out missions such as building growing patches for community kitchens, litter picks and weeding in parks, cleaning ponds, woodchip spreading and planting saplings.

If gardening and outdoor tasks with GoodGym fits the bill, why not see if we have a GoodGym area near you?
