Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

On 6th June I headed out for my first ever run with GoodGym, flanked by a team of over 20 others. Catching the last of the evening sun, we split into two groups; one headed over to Haggerston Park Community Orchard to continue a transformation already underway, whilst the rest of us headed to Margaret’s beautiful community garden to do a spot of weeding and … mulching.

Equipped with wheelbarrows, gloves, extra large shovels and a ton of enthusiasm, we stripped the garden of weeds and laid down a heavy layer of garden mulch to keep them at bay. (Google tells me mulch this is official term for any old garden waste that’s laid over weeds to suppress their growth). Moral of the story: the more mulch the better. We regrouped for a brisk run back to Bethnal Green, along the canal and the edge of Victoria Park. Welcoming gang, good deed done for the day and the perfect excuse to enjoy the sunshine – I’ll be back! *Cheesy pun credit to Elliot.
