Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
34 GoodGymers celebrated GG Camden's 4th birthday, delivered leaflets and shovelled compost for Abbey Community Centre
Wow, oh yeah, we are now four years old here at GG Camden, we can go to school, learn our ABC's and ask lots of questions about the world around us. Also we can help our local community with physical work they can't do or don't have time to do.
Welcome along to Ananya Manchanda and Ashton Bainbridge whose first time it was at GoodGym!
The main news this week is that there is the GG Monthly Social tonight in Russell Square - would be lovely to see you there.
We had two wonderful tasks this week helping Abbey Community Centre. The first led by Pritesh was helping leaflet for a new Community Cafe that is opening at the centre in May, they are looking for volunteers to help manage it and also make the locals aware of the opening for Spring fun!
Community Cafe OPENING!
15 brave GGers headed North-West to the centre, over Primrose Hill and along the roads through Swiss Cottage along the other side. It was a glorious evening for a run and the perfect temperature was mentioned. Once arrived at the centre the group split into two teams to tackle some streets and two tower blocks. Our leafleting in the past has been very effective in helping promote the centre's projects, lets hope this one was too!
With the sun setting and 5km to complete back to base (and the pub) the group got moving. Nice work everyone!
Our second task of the evening was led by PB, again helping Abbey Community Centre but in a different way. We ran 1.5km through the streets of King's Cross to get Camden's Compost Hub, located at Alara Wholefoods (who we regularly help). Upon our arrival we met the lovely Maurice with his van, four wheelie bins and six containers. The idea was to fill this all to the max with compost for Maurice to then drive back to the centre to feed their Spring garden growing.
Compost steam!
We got cracking in our teams; Lina, Alex and Nastasha all had a go pushing the compost into the bins from the top of the pile. OH the steam coming off! Corrrrrrrr
In just over 10 minutes we'd smashed through the task - filling all the bins/containers up and putting them in the back of the van. Imagine how long it would have taken for Maurice to do that on his own? It took 19 of us 10 minutes - work it out, serious maths..
Get your glutes out!
With our task complete we headed to Granary Square for our fitness session. As some of you might be aware I've been in Kenya recently for three weeks at a training camp so I learnt a few things to bring back. Including CORE STABILITY! We formed a circle and started out with two core exercises before moving onto a series of four glute exercises (on each side). Everyone did great and I hope isn't feeling it too much this morning ;)
Next our monthly time trial - with the course mapped out and the stopwatch ready everyone was away. Well done to you all, really pushed yourselves. If you'd like your time just let me know.
Thanks for coming to GG Camden's 4th Birthday - it was glorious!
Sign up for next week here, we are TRIPLE tasking and it's Easter!
PB out.
