Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
18 amped up GoodGymers braved the Winter rain o run 6k to Abney Park Cemetery to shovel 4 Cubic tonnes of Wood chipping to create 4 of the prettiest paths any Cemetery has seen!
In an evening for the trill seekers and water resistant we were honoured to welcome to the GoodGym Hackney family Chloe and Rowena for their maiden run. What a corker they chose!!
A speedy intro to maximise our time on pretty much our longest run we set off lead by newly crowned 50 club and Hackney Task Force member Mr Utility belt himself Peter!
Wriggling through the Hackney backstreets even throwing in a mini detour to keep the run nice and smooth we swiftly moved 3k to meet Park Manager Tom. As always super organised Tom had everything ready prepared with rows of wheelbarrows, lines of shovels and a stack of rakes ready to roll!! We pushed on down to a huge mound of Wood chipping that the council had just delivered. Splitting up into 3 teams we had the strong and relentless Shovelers, feeding the Speedy Barrowers finally passing on to the Laser accurate Rakers.
The pace was hectic from the get go with 4 paths to create there was no time to waste! Getting into a metronomic rhythm early on we quickly finished the first path while the the big wide monster path started to take shape on the Northside marshalled by expert path maker Roz who lovingly manoeuvred the Wood chipping into the exact place to create the perfect path.
While speed was the name of the game on the other 3 paths we even managed to extend the 4th path an extra 30 metres with some super speedy action!
In 35 glorious rain soaked minutes we had created over 250 metres of path completing 4 of the greatest paths ever seen!
After running all the tools back to the shed we split up into the Speedy and Sexy groups for a great run back to base! The Speedy group tacked on an extra 800m and dropped the hammer to dominate a 3.8k loop back to base finishing 20 seconds in front of a powerful showing from the Sexy crew on their 3k run back!
A soggy stretch out and a big well done to all finished off a most enjoyable evenings Fun on the Run!!
Look forward to seeing you all next week on the day after Monday 😉. We are heading back to Wilton Estate Community Garden an old favourite task which we have missed for the last 8 months! Would love to see you there so please sign up and come along!!
Have a great week
