Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pennie Varvarides
This week 13 epic GoodGym-ers ran 1km (PLUS 1 mile) to help the Friends of Tottenham Green fix up the local library.
We were joined by a record number of GG newbies: Give a massive cheer to Katie, Nicola, Wai-Ying, Blanche and Frankie. So many new people! You're all wonderful.
After a quick warm up in front of the leisure centre full of star jumps and high knees, it was time to loop around to Tottenham Green. Louise helped me lead the pack, while Dave was my trusty back-marker.
Just eight minutes later and we were at the Green collecting tools from Laura. Everybody grabbed something and we walked over real careful, ready to continue work on the library garden.
As always, the team blitzed the space, pulling up tonnes of weeds and making a real dent in the old pathway and plants in the corner. Louise, Marco and I all had a go on the deepest of all stumps. After a couple of minutes, it was starting to seem an impossible task, and Laura thought it was a lost cause. But Marco did not give up. The battle was on and he was ready to fight tooth and nail, digging and pulling and shovelling. In the end the stump was bested, Marco stood victorious.
With some of the best digging in the whole of Harringey completed, it was time to pack up and take a team photo. Chi suggested the yoga warrior pose, which I believe to be the best photo of the lot. See for yourselves above.
We then returned our tools and made our way to the starting line for the Harringey Strava Mile entry. Some real speedy running went on tonight. (And a little extra running by a few of you!)
Fancy a challenge? Sign up for Race the Neighbours on Sunday – 10km from Cherry Tree Wood in East Finchley. There's going to be a bunch of GoodGymers there from Haringey and Barnet, area flags in tow.
