19 wet Wednesday runners tackled 6km and helped St Lukes Community Centre
Welcome to Gavin whose first time it was last night, he ran all the way from West Hampstead in the rain to join and is doing his second marathon of the year in Iceland next week. Also it was fantastic to see the GG-Touring Debs from Bristol - she gets everywhere!
For me it's been a triple GG week with leading Islington Monday, Hackney Tuesday and of course the best area Camden on Wednesday. It's been interesting seeing the similarities and differences across all the areas, the general dynamics and the people who attend. With 6 people Monday, 13 Tuesday and 19 on Wednesday I felt like it's been a steady increase of numbers in some shocking 'summer' weather.
Onto to the news:
After a cracking intro (indoors) our wonderful Run Leaders Pritesh and Frances led the way past the British Library and east to the borders of Camden/Islington, we stayed as a tight group and managed to all stay on our feet despite the wet weather.
Wet, wet, wet
Once arriving at the task we were informed by Patrick who works at St Lukes Community Centre that three floors of the building had just been painted and therefore we need to clean the floor and scratch away paint stains. Armed with 16.5 scourers, a roll of blue tissues & two bottles of spray we got to work. Frances took a team to the top of the stairs while Hermione and Arnulfo came up the rear.
Cleaning spray was like gold dust with everyone calling out for it along the hallways.. After 10 minutes we'd thoroughly covered the bottom floor but we hadn't looked up, what about the doors, switches and fire alarms! Get on it!
Feeling like Cinderella
Once we reached the next floor and continued the wipe down Florence said she felt like she was cinderella, alright for some I suppose haha - that fairy tale does have a happy ending right?!
After 35 minutes of hard arm work John, Kat and Katherine took on the challenge of wiping down all the loose paint from the floors as we made our way down to the exit.
Remember GG Social Tonight!
Once we'd posed for a group pic around a carnival bike we headed back home for a stretch and a trip to the pub.
See you later at the social, why not do Regents Park 10km on 3rd Sept with us and sign up up for next week here - we are off to Cecil Sharp House and Antrim Grove Allotments.
PB out.
