This evening we ran 3km and did two tasks in two locations: weeding and tidying up Saffron Central

11 brave runners headed out tonight at the end of a scorching hot and humid day to help out in Croydon. Our first task tonight was to help ECCO tame the raised beds along Addiscombe Road. The ivy, brambles and other unidentified plant life is pretty stubborn but we hacked, hauled, chopped and bagged up around 15 large bags of unwanted vegetation – an impressive job considering the heat. One of the local residents Steve joined in and we even managed to attract a passing commuter who donned some gloves and helped us bag up some weeds – hopefully we’ll see him at one of the evening runs. After that task we had the option of heading to the local park for some hill training or running to Saffron Central to help Ally and Bonnie tidy up Saffron Central before the weekend – guess what the runners chose!? Once we arrived at Saffron Central we leveled some gravel, swept then hosed down a path and rearranged one of the flowerbeds. Two great jobs tonight.

Just so they didn’t completely escape some running and fitness we had a short relay race which involved lots of high fiving and shouting GoodGym instead of passing the baton. Just to make sure nobody cooled down the waiting runners had to complete a series of exercises including squats, running man and push-ps. Bonnie joined one of the teams and helped them to victory – well done Bonnie.

Next Tuesday’s run will be back to Grangewood Park. This is longer run (4km each way) so given the heat in the evenings feel free to bring your Oystercards with you if you think a bus back to the start might be needed.

Don’t forget that next week is the last Tuesday in the month which means it’s time for our social in BoxPark afterwards.

Jim is back from helping Rob direct planes at Gatwick (see if you can spot his photo) and tomorrow night he will be heading to Crystal Palace for the Dino Dash Relay where he will meet up with some slightly bigger dinos!
