Report written by Manjit Birk
This evening we were helping out the local rowing and kayaking centre... The Jubilee River Riverside Centre... The centre opened in 2016 and since then has received 6 awards for its centre and for the work Jamie and his team do for sports, youthwork and tackling environmental issues..
Before I start the run report... I have to introduce a very special person to you
So, today we had an oar-inspiring lady join our Group Run.... Jean Watts. I know Jean from another run group and when she told me that she had heard of this other amazing running group called Goodgym and that she wanted me to find out more information about it.. I did have a little giggle!
Jean is 84 years young and can out run the average person
She is an oar-some lady who has so much admiration from her fellow runners...
When I first met Jean she said to me at the end of the session if the other runners would mind if she came back again... I told her that would be no fishue at all
Ever since then, she has been an integral member of our Friday run group! We have a whale of a time together and buoy does she give us a ticking off when we need it!
Of all the runners I've had the pleasure of meeting over the past year, Jean shore is one of my favourites
Now onto the run report....
A very warm welcome to two new runners.. Aisha and Jean.
After the welcome brief and warm up we headed out the short distance to the Jubilee River... this centre is becoming rowtine for us now... We always enjoy a little run past the River
We took the seanic route through Chalvey, with the lovely Pam backmarking and Jenni kindly offering the walk option
With a couple of pit stops to re-group.. we were there in the blink of an eye
On arrival Jamie gave us a shore(t) brief on the litter clearance task... with the light levels being on the low-tide .. Jamie kindly gave us glow sticks to light the way (I'm sure we spent longer on putting the glow sticks together than the task itself)!
We then went off to tidey the car park working in small teams..
SAFE(TY) IN SLOUGH
Its amazing what type of rubbish we find in a car park.. clearly its the plaice to be safe in Slough!
Not only did we fill a whole 1100 litre bin of waste we also helped move a safe from the water side .. sadly the safe was empty of cash but full of trash... well done to Harry and Alistair for shifting that heavy load! Shame it was a no deal on the safety box!
30 minutes in we were done! We had cleared the car park and made it boat-i-ful again.... we asked Jamie water you think of our work? and to our reelief he was extremely pleased!
To give our walker Jenni the time to get back to base with a head start.. the rest of us did a mini fitness session in the car park.... though with their glow sticks on it was more like a dance session
Thank you to all our runners today and a fond farewell to Rachel who is leaving sunny Slough for the bright lights of London... please do come and see us soon
Next weeks task is indoors .. we will be helping the CVS in town centre decorate their hall for their Christmas party...
We also have our Christmas drinks this Friday at The Corner House on Sheet Street in Windsor from 19:30... please come and join us
Now its time for my boat-y-sleep so have a great week

Great report Manjit, so many puns! Jean sounds amazing, I hope to channel my inner Jean when I'm 84 years young too!
