SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Paul Bown
32 amazing Goodgymers ran between 5-10km and helped Cecil Sharp House & Abbey Community Centre
Thanks for coming everyone, it was a wonderful evening but HOT!
There were no newbies tonight (do mention us to friends, family and colleagues) but a strong contingent of red that knew the deal were on hand. We were reminded about missions, their impact and that it's easier than ever to get involved.
Head count trophy cheering
In the news we thanked Tom Benson for organising the Goodgym Olympics last Saturday, it was a roaring success and CAMDEN WON - woop woop! Check out the photos here.
Cecil Sharp Report by PB:
We ran the one mile to Cecil Sharp House, the home of English Folk to do our monthly gardening task. Once we met Susannah she explained the impact we've made over the year we've been coming along. Tonight there were two areas to weed, sweep and cut back - 11 people got on with that!
The other nine people at the task were looking after the lawn - explanation from Susanna: after stiff competition, 92 plantain plants were removed from the lawn – Isabel won by collecting 25 plants!
The lawn was given food for the fungi and bacteria that supports the grass and then re-seeded!
Cool tools yo
Once we completed the tasks we took a group pic and headed to Primrose Hill for a new fitness session:
We then ran the 2km back to base and stretched out - important to stretch!
Abbey Road Community Centre by Jess:
The other group went on a hot and sweaty 10k round trip to old favourite Abbey Community Centre (grateful that Chris didn't make us go over Primrose Hill). When we arrived we gulped down some much-needed water and picked up some leaflets publicising the centre's new community cafe.
Chris is a kind leader
The cafe is run by volunteers and uses unsold food from supermarkets to make cheap nutritious hot meals for the local community and reduce food waste. It's a great project and they always see a big pick up in numbers when we've been leafleting for them.
Two groups tackled two enormous tower blocks - most taking the lift, but a few ambitious runners deciding to sprint (or possibly stagger) up 19 flights of stairs to the top. Then we speed-leafletted all the way back down to the ground floor. Finally, legs just about still working, we headed back to the Living Centre.
Please note:
Next week for one week only we will be meeting at Somers Town Community Centre (GGC's old meeting place) due to a caretaker situation.
Sign up for next week here - we'll be going to St Mary's and St Christopher's to do some gardening tasks, and this will be followed by a fitness session.
Happy Running
PB out.
