Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nathan Wood
It was a solo deed this time at Thorlands. The sun was out, and the weather was warm 👌
We decided to stay in the walled garden this time round, and leave the heavy work for when we have more hands on deck. First task was to add compost to some soil and break it down, to allow the rest of the team at Thorlands to begin filling up some seed trays. That time of the year!
My next, and final, task was to sift the soil in the big planters, removing pesky roots and slugs/snails (be free! But don't come back). Ready to be planted now.
Hopefully next time we'll be able to make a big push to developing that forest garden!
Thorlands Gardens is a food growing club based on an east Lambeth housing estate, in Camberwell. There was a shared vision to move forward with a zero miles food project on unused and unloved brownfield spaces. There was an understanding that residents of all ages could volunteer simply for the value that experience gives to individual wellbeing. There is also the added bonus of sharing the fruits of the labour, which in this case is healthy produce, such as vegetables, salads, herbs, and edible flowers.
