Today we ran between just over 3km to central Croydon to clean the outdoor table tennis tables

Another hot evening saw us heading into central Croydon to clean the outdoor table tennis tables which have been placed in different locations around Croydon by PING to get the public more active and taking part in a little competitive game play.

So after a quick warm up in the car park we ran to Queen’s Gardens and met up with Barry from Croydon Council’s Sport and Physical Activity team. He gave us a quick safety briefing about the cleaning materials we would be using and we then spilt into two groups. The first group headed along to North End to clean up the tables and the rest stayed in Queen’s Gardens to get scrubbing. Pigeons seemed to love the tables in North End while graffiti “artists” favoured the ones in the Gardens! We were asked at one point if we were doing community service! We did say they were welcome to help us but strangely enough there were no takers. By the time we left the surfaces were pigeon poo and paint free – so a job well done! !

After all our hard work we headed up to the beautiful Park Hill Rec and did some upper body and core works – planks, press-ups, triceps dips with some jogging, skipping and sidestepping between each exercise. Since Park Hill lives up to its hilly name a few hill sprints were in order with some impressively fast legs and pumping arms.

We also had two new members today Sarah and Jamie - so a big welcome to them and hope to see you in your red t-shirts very soon. Dom achieved an impressive half-marathon distance at the weekend in London – all the more extraordinary as a couple of months ago 2.5km was his limit.

Next week we’ll be going for a slightly longer run towards South Norwood to help promote their monthly market by leafleting some of the local streets. Here is the link to join up.
