11 lovely runners ran 5km to trim hedges and mulch trees at the Ealing Transition Initiative!
It was a pretty warm evening and I'm no scientist but it definitely felt like a storm was brewing but it didn't stop 11 of you lovely lot turning up! We welcomed a couple of first timers Amy and Jade and also said hello to GG veteran Sadhana! Lovely to meet you all ladies!
We did a little warm up down the alleyway and headed for our fave park! A little loop round and a slightly wrong turn later and we arrived at the task! Steph mentioned how nice the guy was but I didn't quite expect this! He was SO lovely!
Trevor spoke to us about the project and assigned us all jobs. Tash grabbed a set of shears straight away and started trimming the hedge. Alex, Martin, Jenni and Liv did the same while Cathy armed herself with a wheelbarrow and started filling it with woodchips for some tree mulching!
Ahh my arms!
After 10 minutes or so, there were some interesting noises coming from Steph's corner. All that trimming above her head and her arms were starting to feel the burn! It was looking great though! The hedge was getting super tidy, trees were getting some mulch love and the brambles were being hacked away at the speed of light!
By 8 o'clock, the garden was looking magical! Speaking of magic... Trevor even handed out some magic beans to each of us! So sweet! Tash's looked a bit sad but I'm sure it will be the most beautiful flower of all!
Sprint time!
We gathered all the tools and said goodbye to Trevor and headed back to the park for the fitness session. This week it was everyone's favourite... SPRINTS! I have never heard a moan as loud as you guys once I mentioned the S word! 5 sprints at 90% effort. Not quite sure what the distance was, perhaps 75 metres? Either way, it was further than it looked! We set off in two groups so as to not trip each other over. The first sprint was more of a warm up one, everyone was a little bit cautious. But by number 4 and 5 you guys were going for it! Which was great to see!!! WELL DONE!
We all got our breath back and then headed back for a nice little stretch!
Thanks so much for coming everyone! I hope you enjoyed the task and you should be so pleased for getting so much stuff done! See you next week!
