GoodGym Tower Hamlets were at the double this week, tackling two tasks in the Bethnal Green area. The group of 15 used their infectious enthusiasm to stave off the looming showers on what was otherwise a beautiful summer evening for doing good & getting fit. First of all we made the short trip to the Hollybush Nature Reserve to tackle a huge pile of mulch and spread it across the pathways in the area. With 5 wheelbarrows shuttling heavy loads of aromatic woodchips & the remainder of the group digging & spreading, the huge pile was reduced to ground level in just under half an hour - fantastic work! After saying our farewells to our grateful task owners, we sped down the road to a playpark on Columbia Road to shift some sand from the sandpit in preparation for some imminent returfing. Many hands made light work on the sandpit, but the additional hands were put to great use, litter-picking and clearing nettles in the play area. We even had some help from some local youngsters who were very keen to get stuck into some weeding! After the excellent work on both tasks, we headed across the road for a quick couple of intervals in Haggerston Park before heading back to base along the canal. The group clocked up over 7km & two tasks - a fantastic effort for a Monday evening. Well done all!
