Report written by Ellie Hutchison
*We ran around 3km to sweep playrounds and pull ivy! * Another glorious evening in Croydon and tonight we had two tasks to be getting on with, so we split up into two groups and headed off to our tasks.
Ellie led the first group to Tunstall Nursery School where the sand from the sandpit had taken over the playground! We all got to work with our brooms and swept up many little mountains of sand. Slides and climbing frames were moved, tyres were lifted, and buckets were filled in multitudes! We also put the hose to work and watered some very thirsty plants. It was hard-going but they were very pleased with the results!
Meanwhile, Juliet took Team Two off to the raised beds on Addiscombe Road to help** ECCO **(East Croydon Community Organisation). These beds have once again been taken over by some very stubborn ivy and various other weeds/unwanted plants. It was hard work in the hot weather but after a successful session playing tug-of-war with some very strong ivy, the team had managed to fill over 10 bags of green waste! All in all, the beds were looking much happier.
Once we were all back together, we then headed to a quiet street nearby for our fitness session. We were practising our acceleration techniques for that perfect sprint finish, so Juliet talked us through how to use our arms effectively to help us speed up when needed. We then ran in a circular loop at an easy pace followed by an uphill sprint to practise these techniques – repeated a few times to make sure we had it sorted for our next run!
Afterwards we headed off to the Oval for our monthly social where we enjoyed the beautiful weather in the garden!
Next week we are off to Thornton Heath Rec to help out with some gardening and to tend to the flowers that we have planted there before – hope to see lots of you there!
