Finchley Way Open Space Exciting new open space development in Finchley. Creating paths we hope to see a transformation from impenetrable bush to accessible woodland.
Come, help and learn some of the history of this unique site that has been left to the people of Finchley.
This was the site of Brent Lodge house and garden, built in 1810, owned by Mr F A Hamilton from 1865 until 1902. Brent Lodge was put up for sale in 1907 with an estate of 26 acres. It was then a substantial mansion described as “in the Italian style”. The house and gardens were the site of an early 20th century experiment in co-operative housekeeping pioneered by Alice Melvin, a Finchley resident and supporter of the garden cities movement. It was later demolished and the site was given over as green space. It is now being developed by the local community. (charity)
