On the first group run of the year 25 Goodgymers ran between 4-10km helping Castlehaven and collecting Christmas trees throughout Camden!

Thanks for coming guys - lovely to see you! Some of you even returned from travelling and living abroad and now are back at the wonderful GG Camden.

In the news this week:

  1. We are changing start location from next Wednesday, we'll be at the Living Centre at the Francis Crick Institute using their Ossulston Street (same street we meet on now) entrance.
  2. As Tom Benson kindly introduced it's the Regents Park Time Trial on Sunday 29th January, the first monthly time trial of the year!.
  3. Larmer Tree Race accommodation and transport is now available - have a look!

Back to the group run - after an active warm up we split into two teams, for tonight's tasks:

  1. Helping Castlehaven Community have a new year tidy up!
  2. Collecting Christmas Trees around Camden and carrying them to the recycle points

Castlehaven report:

17 of us headed through the streets of Camden for a 1.6km run to reach our task for tonight. Castlehaven Community Centre is a fantastic organisation that manages programmes for both young and older people, while also maintaining two parks.

Staying warm!

Our task for tonight involved the following:

  1. Mopping and sweeping the floors in the centre.
  2. Wiping down any surfaces.
  3. Swapping a new for old pool table
  4. Litter picking in the two parks

Everyone did brilliantly and we completed all our work in 15 mins! Afterwards we headed along the canal to Granary Square where we played a circuit game in pairs using a rectangle!

Christmas Tree report:

Meanwhile throughout the streets of Camden a crack team of eight GoodGymers were on the search for Christmas trees to take to the local recycling point.

Chris and Polly led the way - weaving the streets of Camden Town, St Pancras and Somers Town. Did you know that real Christmas trees can be recycled in Camden borough between 3-13 January at various recycling collection points, this is an amazing way of helping our local community waste less after the festive period.

"Can really feel that workout" said Sophie Hedges

The Christmas trees recycled in Camden are turned into compost, which can be used to feed plants in gardens, green spaces and flowerpots across the borough for the rest of the year.

The group were able to collect 10 trees and run 10km - corrrrr!

Thanks to everyone for coming, lovely to see you. Next week we are off to Cecil Sharp House, sign up here.

PB out.
