The lovely Ms Y was very clear on her neatly written shopping list that she wanted ‘Garibaldi.’ Alas after checking every aisle Giuseppe Garibaldi was nowhere to be found; although his comrade in arms, Giuseppe Mazzini was found lurking around the cat food.

In the absence of ‘squashed fly biscuits’ too, I phoned Ms Y and we agreed on custard creams instead. The rest of the shop was a lot more straightforward.
