Tonight we ran between between 4 and 5k to plant mushrooms in a local urban garden

Off through central Croydon we ran tonight heading to an urban community garden to “plant” mushrooms. We were met by Andrew who explained the history of the site at Reeves Corner which was the scene of some of the Croydon riots a few years ago. We also got a lesson in how mushrooms grow and reproduce – it was really fascinating and we all learned a few new facts tonight. So we mixed up coffee grounds, card, paper and mushroom spawn by hand and then poured the mix into plastic bags for the first stage of their growth. We marked the bags with GoodGym and our initials so we can see how green fingered we are in three weeks time when we head back down to see how they grew.

After we’d waved goodbye to Andrew we headed up towards Park Hill to stretch our legs as our run to the task was fairly short. Once we were there a lovely slope/hill appeared and it would have been rude not to practice some hill sprints up it. We concentrated on using the arms to help drive up the hill and also on maintaining an upright posture and a consistent pace all the way to the top. Some lovely running tonight!

It was great to meet two new runners tonight, Natasha and Lewis, who were still smiling by the end so hope to see you both again.

Next week we will be heading to Waddon Youth Centre for some hedge cutting so don’t forget to sign up here
