SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by David Snutch
The Laurels, a home for homeless and refugees managed by the One Roof charity provided the task for tonight, with both front, and mainly back gardens needing a good old tidy up.
We set off as usual from our home at the DMU and were joined by new runners Leigh, Michaela, Jodie and Joanna. We also welcomed back Steve who was with us at launch but has been out of town since.
The task site was quite nearby so we took a slight detour to make a 2k jog to the job. Ben and Louise took a pre planned short cut at the Bede Park corner to run direct to site and forewarn of our arrival. Support crew Mel was already there with a car full of tools just in case there were not enough.
This gardening task had the lot, an overgrown hedge, a lawn wilderness, weeds, weeds and more weeds, a potato plot and some ugly moss that needed removing from some slabs.... see if you can work out the before and after photos. In just 30 minutes the GG Leicester squad had effected a transformation. Kerry and Mel looked after the front and everyone else got stuck in out back, as usual 100% effort from everyone. Claire from One Roof gave a heartfelt vote of thanks and we were off on our way to Bede Park for some for drills based on the stretch/shorten cycle and how it can be used to generate the force needed to improve pace. Prize for the "most eager" to get to the far end of the training zone went to Kerry and Lindsay and for the highest pogo it was Steve by a country mile!
With the gloom of the Autumn evening descending on us and the threatened rain just starting to make an appearance we headed back to base for the obligatory stretch down and home bang on time... well 2 mins over!
Wish me luck at the weekend, by this time next week I could be a fully qualified coach, so thanks for being guinea pigs to one of my practical sessions..... just hope I can work out those bloomin A skips so I dont look like a puppet from Captain Scarlett!!
Great effort tonight, both on the task and the form session, see you all next week.

Wow what a transformation! Everyone had something to do, and most people said they had worked so hard that they didn't look up at the garden until the end and were amazed to see what we'd achieved. Good luck at the weekend. I'm sure you'll pass with flying colours :)

Had a call from Claires boss this morning, amazed by our efforts and thanking us for our work. Wants to use our report on the One Roof Facebook page - no problem I said, the more people who hear about what we do, the more tasks we will get.
