Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Juliet Stevenson
This evening we ran around 3km to help in a school garden and nature area
An amazing 17 runners turned up tonight despite the evening being a little drizzly and we headed off for our obligatory warm-up and “amuse the locals routine” outside the Fairfield Halls before heading off to Park Hill school to help in their garden and nature area.
We met the lovely Esther at the school and she explained the tasks which needed doing tonight. There was shifting soil, pond cleaning, weeding, digging leaves into beds, sweeping up and collecting leaves and very importantly not covering up or pulling up any of the carrots which had appeared in some of the beds – that was being left for some lucky school children to do.
I mentioned the slight drizzle when we left well….. that decided to change into a full on downpour but the GoodGymers just kept working on – did keep uswarm at least. Once the tasks were completed we gathered back together and got organised for a timed lap of the school – according to Google maps it is about 750m. We were aiming for a steady pace the whole way round and also not to slip on the soggy slippy leaves. Thanks to Ashley and Sally for helping with the timekeeping especially as it meant hypothermia was setting in as we stood huddling under a tree!
There were a few new faces today so welcome to Adrienne, Olivia and Laura and also to Tim a GoodGym tourist from Sheffield. Lovely to meet you all and hope to see you back
Next week we are heading towards Ikea to help an organization called Unique Roots for a variety of tasks in the community garden area so don’t forget to sign up and see you soon.
