Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
What a bumper night! 18 runners (plus a pro-photographer) turned up to blitz the parks of Peckham from rubbish and move several bags of weeds for Cossall Park Community Gardens.
In your face, Doris
Despite the drizzle and wind, think litter picking a la Crystal Maze style, everyone was mega keen to get going. We also had a guest appearance from #gglegend Patrick who brought his cones and music along to keep us going strong.
A quick warm up and it was off towards the park, the fast group were straight in with the bin bags to collect litter. We brought up the rear as the wind thickened and the rain started to fall.
We had a splinter group go off to help Jaki who run the Community Garden clear bags full of weeds that had been left for us to move. Many hands make light work and they were soon done. There have been a few playground additions since last we visited and whilst collecting, there were a few swing and slide testers on hand to ensure the park was up to scratch.
Assessment complete, the park rocks
A few more minutes of litter picking and then it was time to make use of those cones...
Coney McCone face, musical cones and cone piles (not it's official title!) were all to be played and everyone did well to keep it going in the cold. Big up to Team Orange who won the two team games.
At this point, our posing stopped and the pro-photographer left us. Can you tell which were his pics and which were Jo's? It was then time for us to run back to the Rye (park not pub) for the final bit of our session... the time trial!
Quick out and backs to warm up those legs and get ready and everyone went for it. 720m at your best effort. We don't have a stadium like they do at GG Islington to run around, but we do have our beloved Rye!
Final, slightly soggy jog back to the Old Spike Roastery for a final stretch with Jo before Ellie takes over next week. Time for The Rye *pub*
Massive love to the GoodGym Southwark crew. If you're reading this having not been to one of our runs, come! We get brilliant, lovely people along who share their running but also doing something a bit different with their evenings.
