This week five runners met at Wanstead House to do good and run almost 5km on the streets of Wanstead and Snaresbrook.

With Redbridge trainer James back from holiday in France, Italy and Switzerland normal service resumed - huge thanks to GG Chelmsford trainer, Ken, for covering over the last two weeks. Excitingly, the group were joined by Newham regular, Alice who literally moved to the area at the weekend. Hopefully she will become a regular at Redbridge too.

With the nights getting shorter it was immediately on to the night’s good deed. Several weeks ago the group began painting the fence outside Wanstead House. It’s fair to say it’s been a mammoth task but it is so nearly complete. 8 more panels were painted – leaving just four more to do at some point in the future. The painting has made such a difference to the house and the team regularly get comments from members of the public on how good it looks.

With the task done and the paint cleaned away, it was time to go out and get fit. With Alice heading off to Newcastle this weekend for the Great North Run, the group opted for an easy 5km run around the area, heading North up to Snaresbrook. Alas, it is now too dark to use our favourite Wanstead Park loop and future runs are likely to be 100% road based. Where did the summer go?

Next week we will be heading over to Clayhall to help clean up an area as part of the Redbridge Mayor’s Pride in Redbridge campaign. You can read more about it – and sign up, of course – here. Hope to see lots of you there!
