27 GoodGymers ran 7-8km and helped Antrim Allotments garden various plots!

Welcome along to Poppy whose first time it was this week!

In the news this week:

  1. Well done to Sophie Hedges for doing Vienna Marathon in 3.57 at the weekend.
  2. Remember it's GoodGym Monthly Drinks next week in Croydon + it's Star Wars Day (May 4)
  3. Sign up for GG Olympics here! You can find all the details on the events page here. Let's ensure we get a big team out there to show the rest of GoodGym that Camden really is the best and don't forget we need those flag designs too!

Our task this week was helping Antrim Grove Allotments Association, a group of gardeners and local residents in Belsize Park, who needed our help. The majority of the plot residents are older persons and therefore struggle with heavy lifting, shovelling and continuous garden work. This is where we come in!

Chilly Gardening

On the way there we split into two groups, one going slightly longer via Primrose Hill led by Polly and the other led by myself through Kentish Town. We battled traffic lights and kept warm in this non-spring like weather.

Once arrived we split into groups and did the following (and more):

  • Cut back at some blackberry bushes
  • Cleared areas of weeds and roots
  • Shovelled and turned soiled
  • Cut back an apple tree

It's amazing what 27 people can do in about 27 minutes, we got so much done and the residents were so happy. Great stuff!

Making a difference

After a group pic we headed home downhill and back to base for a stretch led by Polly and then to the pub.

Next week we have two tasks, one which is new, helping St Mary's Flats and St Christopher's House with various gardening tasks! Sign up here.

Nice one

PB out.
