Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pennie Varvarides
This week 8 GoodGym-ers ran 5.7(ish) km to help Westbury Banks Nature Reserve clear the path.
It was so cold tonight we had to work extra hard in our warm up, so we powered through some high knees, squats, direction changes and high kicks. After a few minutes of non-stop movement and everyone was starting to warm up.
It was soon time for us to start our 2.5km run to the task. Dave was our trusty leader, while Cathy was our back-marker. I called Luke at Westbury Banks Nature Reserve to let him know we were on our way as we started to move.
We stopped for some wall press ups along the way, while we waited for everyone to catch up. This happened to be next to a police road block, and when they others caught up they thought we were being frisked! Luckily, we managed to run away before we got into any real trouble.
We managed to find the secret entrance all by ourselves this time and met Luke inside, where he had set up tonight's task for us. We were clearing overgrowth and rubbish and turning soil to make a path, whilst raking wood chip on the other side. As always we found a massive collection of random rubbish, including a mattress, a vase, a million bottles and various broken bits of something.
Before we knew it 30 minutes was over and it was time to put our tools away and take some pics. Luke took a group one for us from the stairs, so I even got to be in one this week!
We then ran back to LordshipRe for some hill sprints focusing on knee drive and a quick circuit. We may have even got two new recruits, as Dave handed a flyer to a couple of boys walking past. They seemed quite excited about the running and the press ups!
We then ran back to base, with Sarah and Joe keeping me company at the front for a speedy finish.
A few stretches later and it was over. Great work tonight, team! *Next week is Valentines Day, so wear red. * Katie will be covering for me, so give her all the Haringey love (and maybe chocolate).
Props to Sarah for this week's pun.
"The Westbury Banks Nature Reserve is a community lead project to transform derelict land into a nature reserve. All work on the site is on a voluntary basis and the management of the site is done free of charge! There are big plans to install a storage unit for the equipment, a mural, a log path with wood chipping, a pond for amphibious for wildlife and a grand insect hotel

Ah it sounded a good one. Sorry I missed it. I had to stay late at work annoyingly so missed you by about 10 mins. See you next week hopefully!
