Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pennie Varvarides
This week 11 GoodGym-ers ran just over 1km to help the Friends of Tottenham Green bag up fallen leaves.
We were joined by GG newbie Julie – give her a cheer!
After a quick intro and warm up we started our loop around the block, with Cathy acting as our trusty back-marker. Cathy hit the big 5-0 yesterday, meaning tonight was her 51st good deed! Give her a cheer!! Hopefully she'll be rocking her well earned black t-shirt next week!
We met Laura by the Green and dished out tools. Una, Dave and Niamh all started with litter picking, while everybody else split into two groups: those picking leaves out of the flower bed and those picking leaves out of the burnt down shed - and sorting through the rubble.
The team quickly got to work filling the super thin, bio-degradable green waste bags with the fallen leaves. There is a fine line between full and too much with these bags, which meant we broke a few trying to pick them up. I tried to warm Abi not to over-fill a bag near the end, but was too slow – as soon as I said it her bag tore. Not to worry though, Niamh was basically a pro at Bag Rescue at this point.
We filled over a dozen bags in 30 minutes and cleared most of the burnt down shed, separating the plastic from the metal where possible.
Once time was out, we returned our tools, posed for some photos and headed to the green for our fitness session. Sprints and Squats. By the end I think everyone's squat technique was much improved and everybody understood the concept of engaging their core a little better.
We then ran back to base for stretches. Cathy told everyone about Time Credits, which you can sign up to here, if you're interested. Just go to the 'get involved' bit. Cathy will track everyones hours at the end of each month. If you have any questions about how it all works, Cathy will be able to help you!
