Despite the last minute task change, our 18-strong group of Tower Hamlets do-gooders were ready to tackle the trip to Poplar to help out the Tower Hamlets Council in sprucing up their community garden space! After the 4.3km run to the task along the canal and through Mile End Park, we were greeted by the task owners with a variety of tasks for us to get stuck into. Our team of painters set about expertly applying coats to the cylindrical flower bed - their works being compared to the likes of Picasso & van Gogh, such was the quality of the brushwork. Meanwhile, weeds and roots were being ripped out and cast into waste bags, ready for the heavy bag of woodchips to replace them. The result was a very smart looking surface surrounding the colourful raised beds. The surrounding car park was in further need of some sprucing, though the pesky weeds and rubbish were collected in style to top off an excellent half hour of work in the community space. The route back included a sharp dash up the Mile End Park garden bridge and formed park of a solid 10km round journey. It was a fantastic evening's work all round (as ever) by our amazing Tower Hamlets team! #towerofpower
