Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
A wheelly big Job
On the last night before Christmas 11 Hackney GoodGymers ran 7k to Hackney Wick community garden to dig, shift, wheely and saw our way to volunteering glory.
Great to have a select crew along for the 54th and final Hackney Goodgym group run of 2016. Welcoming on board 2 new faces Josie and Max for their first runs we booked set off backing a mini detour to book our table for the Christmas Social then powering 4K to Hackney Wick to meet Kirsty at the community garden.
After a quick run down of the evenings tasks we split into teams and burst into action! We had some speedy wheeling action transporting load after load of wood from the shed to the garden. While we had a group turning over the soil ready for planting next to the newly erected Polly tunnel. And some serious shovelling effort being put in to fill the ramp with soil that we ripped out on our last visit.
Once the soil was turned Phil and Kate got their hands on the saws then finding their rhythm cutting the branches into manageable chucks to be used on the garden.
35 minutes of top physical action meant just before we headed off into the night we just had time for a quick refuel of oranges, juice and biscuits. A big thank you from Kirsty we headed back to base gradually picking up the pace on the 3 and a half kilometre run. As we entered the long home straight we did the lamppost drill where we worked hard then easy as we ran past each lamppost for just over o kilometre.
A quick stretch out and a silent round of applause rounded off the evening. Great to have 6 of the crew roll around the corner to Tad Turkish restaurant where we got our well deserved festive big eat on!
Thank you all for a great year with Hackney GoodGym and look forward to 2017!! Have a lovely Christmas and New Year! Look forward to seeing you all on the 3rd of January to get our new year run on.
Smooth Running
