Report written by Brahma Pochee
The summer sun shone strongly on Newham yesterday. Rewarded for all our toil on those dark winter nights, with bone chilling and face numbing winds, cutting sideways rain and the occasional blizzard too. It's nice to have some contrast in the seasons, personally I don't mind a bit of cold weather - but always good to remember how good we currently have it. *That's today's lecturing over
Our Weekly Random Question was inspired by GGN's euopean explorer, Tim (I constantly feel an overwhelming sense of jealousy after seeing his Strava posts). "You've got three months to travel, where do you go and by what means of transport?" American Rockies by foot, Australia by car, get to an australian beach by aeroplane, Trans Siberian Express jouneys (mentioned twice), Vietnam by foot, Ireland by bicycle, America in an RV, Himalayas by foot, Antarctic by boat, China Wall by roller skates, Arctic by sled dogs (plus a couple I inevitably forgot, inc somewhere "by donkey" - courtesy of Brad). Hey, if that don't inspire you, well, then I can't help you. We've got to make one of these adventures happen soon. I'm ranking flying into Byron Bay to have "a barbie by the beach" as the easiest...and Great Wall of China on roller skates as the toughest. But that's purely subjective, yours may well differ.
We shot over to Cody Dock to do some good and enjoy the the quite delightful summer breeze in the best way possible. Upon our arrival we were spit into 'boat folk' and 'plant folk'. The boat people got a proper workout in a stuffy space. Intensive sanding on the ship's wooden floors, getting it ready for their launch day on the 16th (all welcome). The plant people had a more serene watering experience, giving vital nourishment to the array of flora around the docks. Together you provided a fantastic service to the docklands, Simon was grateful as always, taking a few snaps of you to evidence volunteer power.
As the evening was so inviting, and your spirits indomitable as always, a little high intensity core circuit was executed on route back. You only need 5 minutes, a bit of vigour and maybe a grassy patch to achieve enough in that time for a small stimulus. I'm a firm believer in a little, but often.
Also, big shout out to our marathon man, Brad. His first session with us since he did 50 good deeds. Another stalwart, whose running development and grit has been exemplary over the last 6 months. We doff our caps to you Bradley -keep fighting the good fight.
Remember next week is THE BIG SOCIAL, at Hackney Adventure Playground. We have full use of the outdoor pizza oven after, we'll fine tune the details on whatsapp. Sign up here and come down for what promises to be a ripper of a session.
See you beauts then
