Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Julian Osman
Sunday saw a return to one of our favourite tasks: helping the All Aboard Club. The club is an organistion that helps to provide a safe play environment for children with special needs via the medium of a giant train set. Today’s task was made even better by being the first missions for two brand new Good Gym members, so a big welcome to Ali and Daniel.
We were met, as ever, by organiser Richard who put us to work carrying the boxes of track, trains and peripherals indoors after which it was our playtime. Each volunteer gets the freedom to design their own section of the layout with the only caveat being that everything has to join up in the end. So imaginations driven, we soon had a system of loops bridges and stations and before we knew it the hour was up, everything was joined up and the track was ready for kids.
This is a wonderful task as it is a joy to do, provides a great help for the organisers, and the kids who come along love it.
Our activities are designed and run by specialists with lived experience of autism and ADHD. We understand the children’s challenges and the importance of their special interests. Play sessions Help them boost their confidence, reduce anxiety and share their interests with other children in a safe, supportive and understanding environment.
