Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
11 hardy runners covered over 10k and helped Abbeyfield charity spread their message.
So happy we had to many runners this week, as it must be the coldest evening so far! Our task was perfect for the conditions though as we had a lot of running and not much resting on the cards!
It was great to see our new runners back again - and shout out to Shauna who is back running with us again.
After sign in and psyching ourselves for the distance and cold, we headed west along the seafront for a good couple of kilometres. The pace was really good and we were mostly chatting about food it seemed! We had to get over to Westbourne so once past the bright lights of Bournemouth pier we mounted West Hill via a whole loadda steps. Conversation went quiet at this point - oxygen and energy preserved!!
Our destination was the residential streets of Westbourne. Abbeyfield charity provide a not-for-profit care environment for older, lonely and isolated people. They wanted us to help spread the word about their work and armed us with leaflets and a map of roads to deliver to.
We paired up, as the streets were more like humongous boulevards and I didn't want anyone getting lost....our challenge was to find the letters boxes in the quite simply MASSIVE houses of Westbourne and deliver the leaflets.
Small 'misplacing' of 2 runners incident meant we had to loop back to find Sara and Maria who'd been busy covered another street and lost sight of the group. Disaster averted and we found them shortly after and all headed towards the sea, delivering the rest of the leaflets as we went.
We grouped just before dashing back and all hands had lost feeling - cue penguin-like movements to get the blood flowing again!
Our run back was at lightening speed. Was so impressed with all of your efforts. Getting back to base by 8pm was a real WIN!
Jilly from Abbeyfield has already passed her thanks through the Facebook page.
A challenging run and task but you all smashed it - well done and thank you!
