22 GGers ran 5km, helped Caxton House & smashed a time trial - all in a Monday night's work
Nice one for coming guys, welcome along to Jacob whose first time it was last night & everyone. It's getting dark but still warm really!
In the news this week:
This week we were helping out Caxton House, an amazing community hub in the north of Islington borough near Archway. Looked after by Mother & Daughter combo Sue & Rose this is a fantastic place to help out on a Monday night. On our way up we split into two groups with the majority people coming directly there with me, while a smaller team was led by Steve 'Speed' Coman after a lap of the Emirates. Upon our simultaneous arrival Rose explained all about Caxton House & the evening's task - get rid of those thistles!
Big Graham with a Small Spade
Armed with all the tools & gloves a GoodGym team could need we got to work on the front garden, digging up thistles, weeds and stinging nettles. Also Steve, Al, James & Lucy cut back the sides, front & top off some bushes.
Corr within 20 minutes we were basically done - swept up & tidied up - nice! After a group pic we headed back to base in our two groups with Graham 'Small Spade' Atkins leading the faster the group back & doing some drills with them at the Emirates. After our 2.5km downhill run home we all did a few technique drills to prepare ourselves for the monthly time trial.
We set off in two groups 30 seconds apart to spread it out a bit on the 660(ish) metre course around the stadium. Everyone did very well with Graham finishing first in 2.07, Edwin second in 2.11 & Simon 3rd in 2.13. If you'd like your time please email me as I've kept a spreadsheet record. Thanks to Aidan btw who recorded the times - very useful!
After 6 static stretches we headed to the pub with Kike's birthday, all the fun was had - Steve Lee & Graham even snuck out to get a cake called Colin for us to eat (did feel like they'd gone for 15 minutes though & Kike nearly left - well done Aidan for that long hug distraction - you had to be there). Mmmmm cake....
Sign up here we are helping St Luke's & Sunnyside Community Centres - HALLOWEEN SPECIAL!
