Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Tara Shanahan
Congratulations to Helena who tonight achieved her 50th Good Deed, an inspiration to us all! And a big well done to Juliet who smashed 28 minutes to get a new parkrun PB on Saturday.
Talking of parkrun, tonight we were joined for the first time by Mark Brocklehurst, who has been instrumental in setting up and supporting many parkruns across the southeast. Great to have you with us Mark! And an additional 4 new recruits braved the chilly weather to join us in getting fit by doing good. Welcome to Sangheeta, Lindsay, Andrew & Medhi. You are all very welcome, I hope you enjoyed your first Goodgym experience and that you will be back for more!
So excited was I by all the new people and achievements that I forgot to talk about Missions. For those new to Goodgym ‘missions’ are when we send runners to help out with one off tasks for elderly people and this week we finally had our first mission in Brighton. There are many more to do and if you are free this Sunday and have been mission verified then sign up here. If you would like to be mission verified then get the ball rolling by bringing your docs along to a group run.
Just a short 1km to our task tonight where we were helping out on a community garden. We were met by Victor who set us to work pulling up grass, weeds, and dead vegetation, trimming bushes, picking up litter and generally helping to get the overgrown garden back under control. As always we achieved a lot in just 45 minutes and Victor was very appreciative of our efforts and sent me the following text:-
> I would like to say thank you very much for your help with the garden this evening, bless you all for your help, best wishes, Victor
You’re welcome Victor! I hope we will be back to help out some more in the New Year as we all really enjoyed this one!
Task complete we ran to the seafront where we had a 12 minute fitness session. Working in pairs ‘A’ ran down the steps, along the front, up the slope and back to ‘B’ who had been completing an AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) of 10 x squats, 10 x broad jumps, 10 x lunges and 10 x press ups. ‘A’ then picked up where ‘B’ left off and on it went for 12 minutes by which time every body agreed that Goodgym does indeed get you fit whilst doing good!
Sad news tonight as Beth ran with us for the last time for a while as she has finally moved into her new home up north (Sutton!). We will miss you Beth but I know you will be back, thanks for all your contribution since week one at Brighton Goodgym. You have definitely been ‘better late than never!’
