super 6 ran to Hope Housing and set their ping pong table straight
Lovely to have a couple of new runners meet us at Urban Reef to have their documents checked for mission and coach running - welcome Gareth and Claire!
We had 6 runners this week who were all keen to go back to Hope Housing and lend a hand.
We had a short run out, through Boscombe Chine to the houses where his fantastic charity offer homes to the homeless. We'd been there previous and were happy to see the floodlights had been set up again in preparation for us getting to work.
This time our task was very specific. Under the instruction of the lovely Mark, who works at the centre, we were to lay some concrete slabs to put their ping pong table on so it was level for their upcoming tournaments.
And what guidance Mark gave us! We all learnt a lot of new skills - laying gravel and sand which had to be compacted. Measuring up to ensure we laid the slabs correctly. Using a spirit level over and over until the ground was totally level.
Finally the table could be lifted and eased down into position on the slab. The final test - did the ping pong ball roll away when placed on the table? No! Yay - we had created a completely level table, success and job satisfaction.
Mark was so pleased, telling us it would have taken him and another staff member a whole morning. Brilliant!!
Our run back was shorter than planned due to the complexity of our task. We hot-footed it back the way we came for a quick warm down and news update.
Next week we are going 8km over to the Rookery Community Garden.
See you then!
