Today we were back at sunny Nunsmoor Park for our monthly mission. It was a physical one today, with lots of holes to be dug and trees to be moved around but the hard work was worth it for the reward of tea and biscuits (including some delicious homemade flapjack).

With lots of different tasks to get on with we split up into two groups of two. Ross and Katy dug up some small beech trees which had been protecting the orchard and moved them to the path line where they were replanted. Emily and I had a similar task, we relocated Hebe shrubs from inside The Bike Garden out into the park to try and block park visitors from cutting across the flower beds.

Between the four of us we got a lot done in just under two hours of hard digging but we can't take all the plaudits today as we were helped out by another group of sprightly volunteers, the Newcastle Beaver Scouts who were eager to get digging! As always, it's a massive pleasure to see the difference we are making as we join forces every month with the Friends of Nunsmoor Park.

There's another chance to do a Community Mission tomorrow when we lend a few pairs of hands to the fabulous Newcastle Junior parkrun. Pop along if you can!

Regular food and growing activities, rooms for hire and much more

The Bike Garden is a vibrant community space developed on the site of a previous bowling green in Nuns Moor Park, which now serves the community as a place to join in on regular food growing activities, place to hire for private and public events, that may be regular or one-offs, and much more
