Report written by Joel Wiles
9 brave souls ran 4K to help Haggerston Park by making a mulch path for view the animals in Hackney City Farm.
An intense snow storm met is head on for the start of this week’s run and put a lot of runners off but not the tough 9!! No matter what was being said before we set off into the elements!!
Welcoming Lavan for his first and very memorable GG session and saying a very sad Havkney Goodbye to Antonia who after 5 years of tireless Hackney GoodGyming is moving to pastures new! Thank you for being a Hall of Fame GoodGymer and massively looking after/supporting me when I first took over in 2015 xx.
So we set off into the snow taking a bee direct route which nearly resulted in us getting drenched with ice water puddles on Whiston Road.
Reaching Haggerston Park to meet the Park Ranger Bruce and get stuck straight into so shovelling, barrowing, tipping and raking! Although smaller in number we were all laser focused on the pursuit of mulch path making (working hard so we stayed warm!!).
Stupendous effort over 40 minutes of task brilliance meant we created 80 metres of amazing path so the animals could be viewed this winter and keeping the park used when it would normally be too muddy. We completed just a little less than 2 weeks ago with more than double the runners!! Great work team!!
Zipping back to base getting our hands warm before smelling the amazing food creations in the Bakehouse which for sure made us ready for refuelling!!
See you next week for our visit to Wilton Estate Community Garden!!
Don’t forget our Starter Session this Saturday at Hackney Marshes!! Be great to see you for the parkrun, Starter session or if you don’t fancy the run the task with the Tree Musketeers!
Smooth Running
