The great thing about summer in Brighton is if a task doesn’t pan out there is always the great fall back task of a beach litter pick! And with the weather so hot where else would you really want to be!
After warm up and intros, where we congratulated Roy on another parkrun PB & welcomed first timers Madeleine, Andrew, Dennis & Elefierra, we headed to the busiest section of Brighton beach between the piers. Splitting into pairs and small groups we picked our way between the bathers, boozers & BBQers and collected about 20 bags full of rubbish.
Marine plastic pollution has been getting a lot of attention lately but sadly the message doesn’t seem to be getting through to everyone and there was the usual array of straws, beer cans, water bottles, food wrappers, lighters & socks! I do find it disappointing that there are still seafront businesses handing out plastic straws, next time you are offered one, please just say ‘No!” It’s also a shame that Brighton council are not doing more to encourage recycling on the seafront. But I’m hopeful that our presence on the beach helped spread the message and hopefully we have encouraged people to be a bit more thoughtful.
Litter picked we headed to Hove Lawns for a partner fitness session involving everyone’s favourite exercises, burpees, press ups and squats with a bit of running thrown in. We headed back to base along a very crowded seafront and stretched down and said farewell (again!!!) to Gilles who despite having his leaving do last week turned up for his very last (really!!) Goodgym. If anybody would like to say goodbye to Gilles again then you have one last opportunity at Preston Park parkrun this Saturday!
Next week we are off to The Bevy and we’re gonna be on Latest TV!!!
