SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ellie Hutch
We felt it in our fingers, we felt it in our toes. It was well and truly......Wet Wet Wet. But do you think that put off my courageous crew of Southwark Soldiers.... of course not!!!! Goodgym Peckham was out in force and ready to crush the task for the Peckham Coal Line once more!!! Pow Pow.
So starting off the session, we stepped out of the cold and gathered together at base camp, with the good gym cheer and merriment of housekeeping, warming the troops one by one.
To start the night off, was the unveiling of the winners prize from last weeks' urban orienteering bonanza!! And if you read the run report you'll already know that clinching it by a mere 2 points was Team Pigeon, led my Queen Pigeon herself - Helena.
Having been baking up a storm in the afternoon, I was all too pleased to share the winners home-made prize in the form of my flourless, refined sugar free, chocolate and beetroot brownies. And accompanying the brownies was the ultimate stash of winners medals and best ever trophy - The golden, blue ribboned pineapple Ooohhhhhgghghhhh But because not all of the winning team could make it for the session this Wednesday eve, the one team member repping for the Pigeons - Emma, took the praise, the glory and the pineapple too. Yay!!
So after the awards and housekeeping chats, the task for the night was revealed - To fun run down to Bidwell Street and help Nick once more for the development of the Peckham Coaline community garden walks project. This week the task in store was to shift not one, not two but three massive bags of soil from one side of the sight to the other.
So in the pouring and endless rain, the team stepped out of the comfort of our coffee shop shelter and speedily dashed off the short run down to the sight, avoiding gigantic puddles and bus splashed along the way.
Arriving in no time at all, we immediately set to work on the shovel and shift operation and with a limited number of spades, all manner of bizarre and ingenious tools were recruited to support the mission : One random shard of plastic and a metal paper-bin to be exact! And although these bags were HEAAVVYYYYYY!!!! 3 tonnes to be exact, they were no match for my team of soil shifting superheroes. And even though our quads were on fire, we did not tire proceeding for the next 35minutes toYank and Drag Compost Bags shovel, lift, shift and spade for the love of Peckham.
Now I cannot stress to you how wet this session was, so let me put this plainly - Rain + Compost = MUD MUD MUD!!! Oh yes it was a messy one, but as happy as a gang of pigs in ........ ah hemm mess!?!?! We cracked on with laugher and gusto all the way to the end, shutter-bugging our efforts and the messy mayhem of the task.
What an amazing crew these guys are, because as the count-down timer chimed it's last bell, we realised we had actually completed the full challenge!! Yes!!! 3 tonnes done, we had won!!! And rewarding us for our efforts, was Nick with another stash of thank you biscuits, which we ran home with like a relay baton.
Back at base, Core-blimey we had just enough time to end the session with our now traditional set stomach exercises, planking and squeezing our way to the close of the session.
And there you have it, another stunning week of funning and running though our beloved Peckham for the cause of the Good(Gym)!
See you next time!!!!
