SIXTEEN SENSATIONAL RUNNERS, RAN 4KM TO HELP A LOCAL CO-OPERATIVE DIG FOR VICTORY AND CREATE TWO HUGELKULTUR BEDS!

It was great to see some new faces at @GGSHEFF this week! Before setting off from base we welcomed our new runners:

Carys Hutton Lilli Wicks Abbie Smyth Jasmin Chew Sam Needham

A short jog took us to our Task destination at REGATHER where true to form GORGEOUS GARETH & FANTASTIC FRAN were waiting to greet us with tools and expert instructions on how to make a ** HUGELKULTUR BED**

We quickly split into two teams and got to work under the instruction of the Regather team who also took some great photos for us. The bed's construction consisted of a number of stages, namely:

*Take the top turf off

*Dig 6inches deep in a V shape to create a channel

*Put some massive logs in the channel (these take a long time to rot and create long term slow release nutrients for the beds (similar to a really good complex Carb ;).

*Pop the turf back on - grass side down

*Cover in Hay

*Sprinkle over some hops to flavor

*Finally top with soil

*Season to taste and bake in the sun and rain for the foreseeable future

We even had a timely shower to help the beds settle in and cool us off from the determined digging of the @GGSHEFF crew.

Passers by watched in curiosity, confusion and awe at the amazing work and chiseled calfs of the @GGSHEFF team.

After downing tools and taking a quick group finish photo we sampled Fran's mum's biscuits and had a kindly donated juice box from the Regather stores!

Following a brief break, no @GGSHEFF run would be complete without a fitness session so a circuit was created around the community garden with a change in exercises each time around. All in all we...

*Lunged (a lot) *Tri dipped *Pressed Up *Burped! *Mountain Climbed *Star Jumped *Squat 180'd *Stair climbed

On finishing the fitness session the heavens opened which was a good que for us to waive goodbye to the good folks at Regather until next time and jog back to base to stretch off and hear about Kat's first Coach run!

Next week we are off up to see Friends of Sheaf Valley Park to make the Green triangle green once more and take in some of the best views Sheffield has to offer, so don't delay, sign up today!
