Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Frost not quite thawed, 13 runners set off on a lovely amble up and down hill to Camberwell Salvation Army to sort out their foodbank for them.
New faces and old faces together, we set off from Old Spike Roastery talking about how amazing Parkrun is and the number of GoodGym t-shirts at Peckham Parkrun on 26th November. Big up to our own Helena who paced 23 minutes making sure Chris and Hanna both chased their own PBs.
As ever, it's never really flat in Peckham and we made the ascent and descent to Camberwell, running passed the joyous smells of KFC and Silk Road.
We arrived at the Salvation Army to the lovely Janet who, as ever, welcomed us warmly into the building. They get requests for food regularly through social worker referrals and recommendations and had lots of tinned goods from generous locals. Our job was to empty the cupboard and the loft, write the expiry date in giant black marker and sort out so that no one was given out of date food and that the stuff going off in the next two months got given first.
Like so many tasks before, we proved ourselves a group who...
Love order...
... give us a task that requires sorting and organising and we will boss it. Special mention to team loft who braved mint matchsticks that were 6 months out of date; *note they have a strange aftertaste and get those funny grey splotches all over the chocolate.
Once everything was in order and bags for the next few people were sorted, we had a quick chat about famous Southwark residents (are you ready for the Christmas Party?) and had some in-date chocolates from Janet. Then it was time to go back outside.
Toes nearly not numb
We set off back across the borough to get home. Relieved to have survived the coldest run in a while, we stretched off, wished everyone a good week and plotted Christmas fun...
Until next week, lovelies...
