Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

35 GoodGymers ran 6km and glued 2000 ribbons to postcards for Terrence Higgins Trust to prepare for World AIDS Day!

Coorrrrr what a great evening, thanks for coming, we did A LOT! Before reporting about all of that the news this week:

  1. Well done to Jacob for getting 1.32 in Conway Half Marathon and Aidan for getting 1.35 in Eton & Windsor Half Marathon. Both amazing PBs!
  2. Don't forget we are doing Regents Park 10km next Sunday (4th December), Jess will be the main contact on the day, it's gonna be a good one with brunch afterwards too!
  3. Lastly well done and thank you to Anthony Robles who hit 50 good deeds last night, Anthony has been coming to GoodGym Camden for several years and has had a coach for the last year. Such a great guy!

Right onto the task report:

We warmed up and were ready to go after collecting four people from another meeting point (the pub), sorry again, my bad with the location description.

Chris led the way, tackling Euston Road and the streets of South Camden in our 1.25km run to Terrence Higgins Trust, it's a wonderful sight seeing 35 GGers take on London at night!

Ribbon time!

Once we arrived we met Simone who is the Volunteer Manager at Terrence Higgins, she explained that in preparation for World AIDS Day, taking place on 1st December, we were tasked with sticking ribbons on fundraising cards. These will be handed out as part of a fundraising event at King's Cross on the day, with the aim of people wearing the ribbons to raise awareness and turning the card over and texting to donate.

We split into tables and teams and got started, every group had their own system and it worked beautifully! With sweets, bananas and water fuelling us we were done in no time!

23 minutes + 35 GoodGymers = 2000 cards packed up!

Having completed the task, we took a group pic and said our goodbyes to Simone, I'm sure we'll see her in the new year for more tasking! Now with the 'Good' done it was time to do the 'Gym'! We headed over to Russell Square, a well lit and centrally located public space, to do Frances' fitness session.

The session went as follows:

  • Get into pairs of mixed abilities
  • Run separately around the square (approx. 1/3 of a mile) one going left and the other going right
  • Run faster out to meet your partner, high-five and jog back as a recovery
  • Do this three times with increasing speeds on the interval section
  • This type of training system helps push you to be faster

Frances led the session wonderfully, really testing people by pushing them around Russell Square! Well done!

After a gentle run back to base, we stretched out, talked GoodGym current affairs and headed to the pub (some of us for a second time). Don't forget about the GG Xmas Party on Friday 9th December, the dress-up theme is to come as your area - got any good ideas???

Sign up for next week's run here, we are off to sweep leaves for Castlehaven Community Centre.

PB out.
