A team of 9 ran to the Carer's Garden for tasks inside and out!

We said hello to a brand new runner, Mairead, so let's give her a big old cheer and welcome her to the family. We also had a lovely visit from some of the Sheffield Run Leader crew, great to have Sam and Stephen along.

With Stephen doing his final prep for the Yorkshire Marathon this weekend, he was more than happy to back mark for us. So we headed off down the hill to the Carer's Garden, where we were met by the lovely Gordon. Our task was to clear all the very overgrown weeds either side of the polytunnel, and to dust everywhere above shoulder level in the cabin to get rid of all the cobwebs.

Some of those spiders have saddles you know - Gordon

With 6 of the crew armed with shears and happily cutting away, I headed up to check on parkrun-PB-streak-Josh and Stephen who were doing a lovely job of the dusting. Stephen did a solid flick of the duster in an apex and suddenly, an alarm went off. None of us could figure out how he had set it off, so the blame shifted to Josh as he was dusting near a sensor too. Gordon frantically pressed loads of buttons on the alarm panel and after a few minutes, annouced that nobody had done anything wrong in the cabin and that in fact, a wire had been cut down by the polytunnel.

It's okay! I'm an electrical engineer! - Stephen

We all ran down to the polytunnel where Sam immediately admitted guilt.

Nobody warned us there were wires! - Sam

I'm pretty sure Sparky Stephen's 'electrical engineering' background was limited to something with circuit boards in college but he did an excellent job of finding the rogue wires and looked the part with his headtorch and pliers. There was some talk that it might take him a bit of a while and that he might have to miss some of the fitness session. I was dubious.

You can't rush art

Meanwhile Dan was in his element chopping those weeds back, whilst sisters Grace and Mairead had cleared a huge area down the far side of the polytunnel. Lisa had been clearing at the front but immediately backed off after wiregate and stuck with the safer job of sweeping everything up instead.

With the sides of the polytunnel weed-free and a cobwebless cabin, it was time for another fabulous fitness session! We had a song-based workout which meant doing loads of press ups, sit ups, burpees and generally rolling around on the ground!

You've ruined 'Cups' for me FOREVER! - Connor

Connor loved it really, plus we were well and truly warmed up for the run back up the hill. Plenty more songs where those came from.

Join us next week for more do-gooding and fitness (and hopefully less alarms).
