GoodGymers get to the root of the community
15 GoodGymers made their way 4.0km to help the Maystar & Cheesemans TRA in Hammersmith and Fulham.
- Tuesday, 23rd of May 2017
- Led by Polly Skeats-Beswick
15 goodgymers ran 5k to do some gardening and sand a wall at the Maystar & Cheesemans Estate.
We started the evening with a warm-up before running the 2k to the task.
Pauline the housing association's treasurer, met us outside upon our arrival. She gave the group a little overview of who lives on the estate and who we'd be helping.
Next up, she walked us through the tasks in hand:
- Clear and cut back two gardens of older residents who were no longer physically able to look after them.
- Water a big flower bed, "so the daisies could flourish!". (This bed had been previously dug over by the H&F crew.)
- Lastly, the toughest task - sand off old sellotape from a wall in the hall, ready for some cork tiles to be fitted next week.
Hunker down
Each group hunkered down and smashed through the tasks with the usual Goodgym energy. (Well done to the hall gang specially for working in such a warm environment.)
Once everything was done and packed away, we headed back to base for a warm down.
And that completes my first session leading Hammersmith & Fulham Goodgym. Thanks to everyone for making me feel so welcomed. And welcome also to Anna, who had her first session too. Give her a cheer!
Next week
Next week, we'll be back for more gardening, watering and fit those cork tiles. Sign up here
Happy running,
Polly or PSB
