With a 9-strong team, Goodgym Westminster headed to Paddington Recreational Ground for an evening of gardening and accidental fishing (please note no fish were harmed in the performing of this task).

With a long run ahead there was no time for hanging around, so the aptly named ‘dirt-management’ squad packed their marigolds and hit the road.

A solid effort was made by all on the run down to Paddington, which comprised a series of jogs, tempo raisers and SPRINTS!! This alongside rescuing an old lady from an oncoming taxi (the good deeds just keep on coming) made for a truly successful start to the evening’s task. Gently bringing it home into ambient Paddington Recreational Ground, the team set about working with haste; sleeves up, marigolds on.

Tasks for the evening had been written on the whiteboard inside and there was no beating around the bush or mistaking our tasks on this one: get the green slime out of the pond and water and weed the plants. Roger that.

The team split in two and half of the good gymers tackled the watering and weeding while the other half tackled the pond. The pond looked as though Shrek himself had belly flopped from 200m above, thick green SPLAT. But with the poise and limb extension of Graham leading by example, the team were able to de-Shrek the pond and return it to its former glory. However…when the pile of discarded green mush started moving it was realised that a few fish had been beached. They were quickly returned to the pond and did not end up battered with chips for team supper. The other half of the team did a stellar job and put their marigolds to excellent use, weeding and watering the plants, ensuring that the garden could continue to flourish. Once the dirt had been managed and Nemo had been returned to the big blue ocean of the 3x3m pond, the team de-gloved and headed back to the West-end.A great evenings work all round!
