Our team of GoodGymers in Barnsley went to Locke Park to sweep up!
With Josh and Lisa leading the way in their fresh-out-the-bag GG t-shirts, we ran to the bottom of Locke Park (read: all the way down the hill). There was a tense moment when, after speaking to Anne on the phone, we thought we'd had to run all the way back up again for the brooms but luckily we were close!
Anne is part of a small volunteer group who help to look after the park and gardens, but they needed some people-power to sweep up all the leaves which were covering the path and the soggy conker casings which were becoming a slip hazard. Locke Park is the location for the local parkrun, so it's important to keep the path as clear as possible.
The first challenge was to make a good broom choice. Lisa ended up with a small one but it ended up being a good match as she went around perfecting the paths and sweeping away the most miniscule of debris after the others had been through.
Josh was attempting to do social media and sweep at the same time, which proved extremely difficult.
I can't multitask very well - Josh
You can barely task, at all! - Dan
We cleared the whole section of pathway at the bottom of the park, Anne and co. were super chuffed. We nearly managed to convince them to join our fitness session, maybe next time!
We worked the running legs with some shuttle sprints, bookended with squats and lunges. Then we did some more sprints with explosive jacks before finishing off with single-leg exercises.
It's almost time for headtorches now, dig yours out for next week!
