Seven sensational @GGBarnsley runners ran 3km to help Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) battle nettles and weeds that had overgrown into pathways in Penny Pie Park.

We welcomed 2 new runners this week:

After a chat about what Good Gym does with our new runners we did a quick warm up and got out on the road heading out toward Pennie Pie Park.

We were kindly greeted in Hi Vis splendor by Magic Martin who we helped with tools from his car and headed to the task location. The task this week was a daunting one with many of the woodchip paths in the park being overgrown with nettles and weeds which were spilling onto the paths and making them difficult to access.

Armed with an selection of tools and a safety brief from Martin and Tom, the team got straight to work hacking, cutting and slashing at the over growth.

After 45mins of good graft the paths were much more open and the difference between before and after was really night and day.

Great work team Barnsley!

After returning tools to Martins car and comparing the number of nettle stings we headed for the Helipad for a little fun filled card game fitness magic!

The fitness session this week included:

  • Press Up's
  • Planks
  • Inch Worm
  • Sumo Squat
  • Glute Bridges
  • Lunges
  • Star Jumps

Following the session we jogged back to base for some stretching and to hear all about Missions, Coach runs and how to make @GGBarnsley bigger and better!

A fantastic time was had by all with all runners really keen to help spread the word and help @GGBarnsley grow which was great to see!

Thanks for having me Barnsley and hope to see you again soon!

Happy Running,

Tom
