Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
25 amazing GoodGymers helped Ashdown Crescent Sheltered Housing and did an awesome fitness session - running 6km!
In the news this week:
We had two tasks this week but one was cancelled last minute so we made the most of our time and did a fitness session instead and Frances led a group of seven to help at Ashdown Crescent!
Here is her report:
Seven of us took a trip to help Cathi with the garden of some sheltered housing flats in Kentish Town. There were two main jobs: sweeping up and bagging lots of leaves to be used to make compost and planting bulbs and plants.
WILD GARDEN!
The idea is to create a bit of a wild garden come spring. We were able to use our crocus planting skills from a previous visit to Castlehaven Community Centre (use the spade to create a ditch, put in three crocus bulbs point up, cover) to quickly cover a large space. Before the end Ben ended up in a bit of a pickle as he dealt with the last few crocus bulbs. Clearing a space to plant them he managed to spend quite some time clearing a space and planting them while kneeling on some nettles! He survived but what with the rain at the start of the night and then being stung it was quite the evening! In any case we’re looking forward to seeing what it looks like in a few months!
...and here's a breakdown of the fitness session:
We ran around 3km past Castlehaven and along the canal to Granary Square. From here we did some conditioning exercises, including bench-steps and press ups! Then onto some progression running - we used the main square building for this, increasing speed on every corner - amazing!
GYM!
After collecting together in a circle we played my favourite exercise drill, demonstrate and tag game! This included squats, star jumps, balancing exercises, jump strides and various other awesome exercises. We finished our session off with another progression run and then headed home.
What an awesome evening, next week we are going to the Terrence Higgins Trust for one final push before #WorldAIDSDay to help pack up ribbons, tell your friends and sign up here.
PB out.
